The rummage sale was really fun (well at least for me it was).  It was a great community building activity—lots of people cleared out their cupboards and basements.  Neighbors came by to say hello.  Former parishioners came to visit, contributed stuff and made new purchases.  Families came for a Saturday outing.  AND, we made a bit of money.  Susan Pick led the project with enthusiasm and careful planning and more than a dozen volunteers worked hard, collecting for the sale, organizing the items, pricing, selling, providing a lovely volunteer dinner on Friday and snacks on Saturday.  And then afterwards, clearing out the stuff, cleaning up the church and preparing us for Sunday worship.  It was really fantastic work—hard, but worth it.
