in honor of St. Francis...

Benedicite Nativity
After Benedicite Aotearoa in the New Zealand Prayer Book

O give thanks to our God who is good:
Whose love endures forever.

You sun and moon, you stars of the western sky:
Give to our God your thanks and praise.

Sunrise and sunset, night and day:
Give to our God your thanks and praise.

Clay soil and ranchland, bay marshes and redwood forests,
Hilltop rising into the Lucas Valley,
Give to our God your thanks and praise.

You live oaks and bunch grass,
Pickleweed, tule, and golden brown fields.
Give to our God your thanks and praise.

Abalone, Great White, sea otters and sandpipers,
Steelhead trout, grey whales, clams and pelicans.
Give to our God your thanks and praise.

Wild turkeys, grey squirrels, deer and mountain lions,
Turkey vultures, geckos, and screech owls,
Give to our God your thanks and praise.

You women and men, children and young adults,
All who live north of the Golden Gate,
Give to our God your thanks and praise.

All you saints and holy people of the wild west coast,
Give to our God your thanks and praise.

All prophets and priests, all stay-at-home parents and office workers,
Teachers, students, retired men and women,
Job-seekers, nursing home residents, judges and musicians,
Give to our God your thanks and praise.

All children and infants, all people who play:
All creatures of Nativity,
Give to our God your thanks and praise.
